A couple of weeks ago it was time to start the maintenance on the bunnies’ outdoor pens and for a few of them, add something interesting for next year. I started with Molly and Peanut’s pen first, after filling in the majority of the holes they had dug I proceeded to give them their outdoor tunnel. A shallow hole is dug and the pipe placed in, I then fill in around the pipe with soil. Sounds simple!

After much messing about by those two I finally finished their pen. Now don’t laugh, I know I said simple earlier on but that isn’t the case especially when you’re making it up as you go along with not necessarily all the right equipment needed. Anyway….

Now their tunnel isn’t quite finished as I need to fill in the gaps with more soil but first I am going to let it settle.
Last year I made one for Apollo and it was a similar bodge at first but this is how it is a year on, so I live in hope the two I have done now get to that stage.

Apollo loves to sit on top of it and go through the tunnel. However, he also likes to dig in the sides of the tunnel which I have had to repair.

Finally there was Thumper and Katie’s pen to do. This was going to be a challenge as Thumper does not like change in any shape or form and nowadays is easily upset by changes.

Eventually, he realised his gate was open so he went off for some grass munching business. Then it was Katie’s turn to give me a ‘helping’ paw.

I know, not exactly a perfect tunnel again but I have more soil filling in to do and then will seed both the new tunnels. Fingers crossed in a year they’ll look ok and no one will have destroyed them!
