Vegetables & Fruit

Vegetables

The best vegetables to give are the leafy green type, Kale, Spring greens, etc.
I find carrots are fine as long as they are given in small quantities.

Carrots & Cavelo Nero
Broccoli, Kale & Apples

Here is a list of some of the veg:

Spinach
Cabbage
Parsley
Carrot
Spring Greens
Kale
Watercress
Raspberry Leaves
Dill Leaves
Celery
Broccoli
Cavelo Nero (type of Kale).
Bell Peppers (All)
Brussel Sprouts – not huge quantities as they are quite hard to digest.

The above is not an exhaustive list.

I only give my bunnies sprouts at Christmas. They are in the form of a sprout tree & it is a great boredom breaker as they have to work quite hard to get the sprouts. I only give them one tree between the six of them & it is put on rotation so that no one over indulges & becomes ill.

Toffee & Patch making a start on the sprout tree.
Annie getting stuck in while Thumper looks on.
Teddy & Daisy tucking in well.

Fruit

Fruit can be given, & boy do they enjoy it, but it must be given in moderation. Fruit is often high in sugar & starch. Given on a daily basis it could cause diarrhoea, gut problems & make them fat.
Apple pips contain cyanide but the quantity is very small & is encased by the seeds hard coating.  This allows the pip to pass straight through the digestive system causing no harm. If the bunny chewed the seeds & the cyanide was released, it is such a small amount the bunny’s body can deal with it. For the cyanide to have any effect, the pips would have to be eaten in large quantities.
