Peanut.
Hi folks, I wanted to do this post as this matter is very important to me and my bunny family. As you can see from my photo above we have all had a visit from our vet. This was to do out yearly vaccinations for the diseases Myxomotosis, VHD1 and VHD2. We have all had the vaccine Nobivac Myxo RHD Plus, this covers us for all 3 of the diseases.
Now I would be the first one to admit I am not happy about being disturbed from daily activities to have this interuption of manhandling and jabbing but it is SO, SO important.
The consequences of not giving your bunnies, who you should view as treasured family members, will likely be painfully fatal and it will be your fault. I know that sounds harsh but I still hear of bunnies dying to these diseases because their ‘caring’ owners have not vaccinated or have not kept up with yearly boosters. It’s not just for the outdoor bunnies, it’s for the house bunnies too. The virus’ can get into your home. Your bunnies trust you to love and protect them so get them vaccinated.
If you are in any doubt as to whether to vaccinate please read the symptoms of the diseases on our Vaccination page.
Unfortunately, I also have news of a new variant of VHD2. There has been no data collected as to whether it is in the UK but I would imagine it is highly likely as it is in Europe. It is not known if the Nobivac Myxo RHD Plus will cover them for this new variant. There is a vaccination out there that is being recommended called Yurvac. However, I think it’s best you click the link to the RWAF site as they have more information. It’s worth checking their advice to the vets too, just search their site for Yurvac.
