Apollo Kick Started the Moult.

Apollo has quickly moulted.

Last month Apollo kick started the moult. He was well ahead of the other bunnies. As you can see from the above photo, he’s shed well down his back.

Apollo’s Head.

The photo above shows how far Apollo’s moult has got to on his head. It almost looks like a heart shape.

This is what I managed to comb off him – not as much as I thought.

One week later….

The moult line moves further down his back but now you can see a lot more fur is shedding.
A close up after his comb, he looks a lot neater.
The amount of fur that came out.

Looking at the above photo and seeing how much fur came out. This is why you should comb them.  Imagine if they ingested all that or even a quarter of it, all the fur would have to travel through their guts and you can see why a blockage could occur.  Apollo isn’t usually a rabbit who needs help during the moult, in the past it has shed very finely but I have found it varies from year to year with each rabbit who needs the help and who doesn’t. I would reiterate, don’t leave them to shed huge amounts of fur it’s not worth the risk of affecting their guts. so if you see fur sticking out like Apollo’s then get that comb out.
