The time soon comes around again for their monthly weigh in but it was also nail clipping time. As I’ve said in previous posts, regular weighing of your bunny is very beneficial. It should give you a heads up if something is starting healthwise. A sudden drop in weight is concerning and requires a trip to the vet. Always better to nip things in the bud. It’s also good to know what your rabbits normal weight is.

Nail clipping is also a good chance to assess your bunnies’ health. Any uneven wear on the paws is a good indicator that maybe there is a bit of arthritis going on or something else. Generally you will see that one paw has a lot longer nails than the opposite paw, for example say Peanut’s claws on his back left leg were longer than his back right leg, that would indicate he isn’t using his back left leg as much as the right leg. This is a scenario I have seen many times especially in my older bunnies. It usually means arthritis is starting but not always in the leg as you might think. Sometimes its the hips or its to do with the spine. Once again this is something that will require a vet visit as your bunny could be experiencing some pain. As we know bunnies’ are very good at hiding illness due to them being a prey animal.

I am pleased to report everyone was pretty good weightwise and no other issues. The eagle eyed of you might notice that Bob’s photo is one taken last month. I forgot to take his photo and I just couldn’t leave him out!!
